What are the 3 Stages of Dementia?

Dementia and Alzheimer's in all forms are typically categorised into 3 stages: early, middle and late.

Will my local authority help pay for care at home?

Navigating the financial aspects of care can be quite daunting. There are two main ways that care is funded: either by the client directly, and this is called ‘self-funding’ where all the costs are covered by the service-user; or where your local authority (council) pays all, or part of the care costs. With the latter case, how much the service user contributes is determined once the council has completed a financial assessment, to see how much the individual has in savings and other income. Savings of less than £23,250 generally means that you may be entitled to council funded care, either in part or whole but this is very much dependent on any other income that you have available. Savings above £23,250 may indicate that you will be deemed to be self-funding, however, again, there are other considerations including what your care needs are.

Home care versus residential care home - what is best?

As you can probably guess, there's no set answer to the question "is care in your own home better than going into a care home?". The Bramble Home Care team firmly believe in person-centred, individualised care provision, meaning that we take the time to understand the care needs of each of our clients and plan their care accordingly.

In some cases it may be obvious that a care home environment is the best option, and sometimes a combined approach - for example respite sessions in a care home to complement regular domiciliary home care - can work best. It's important to remember that there's no right and wrong, and that care provision should be flexible and able to change over time, and it should always be focussed on the comfort, safety and dignity of the service-user.
